A rustic Cotswold garden with a hint of Tuscan charm

Whitaker Landscape were appointed to design and build this large Cotswold garden in 2021. When the client acquired the property the garden presented very much a blank canvas with little more than a few small planting beds and a large expanse of lawn.

The client wanted a design that would subdivide the garden to provide smaller, more intimate spaces whilst retaining a generous lawn space that could allow for play and events.

The solution presented a garden which worked with the property and assumed a rustic and agricultural character. The boundary wall was lowered to reveal the big sky view of the fields beyond, and the reclaimed stone was reused to create a cobbled ‘yard’ space which houses a large entertainment table and contemporary water trough.

Intentionally loose ‘prairie style’ planting divides lawn and house whilst providing a sense of privacy and intimacy from with the yard. A run of poplar trees creates a shelter belt to the west boundary of the property, and a kitchen garden sits in the sites most sheltered spot.
